Välliste mountain is great for downhill mountain biking, offering both steep and gentler sections. There are no lifts running during the summer, your own legs and your bike are what you need to get you uphill. It can be hard work, but just like ski touring in winter you’ll get such a sense of satisfaction for making it to the peak under your own steam. This type of biking is called all-mountain or AM for short. That means you ride the whole lot. Uphill, downhill or flat. The mountain has varying terrain with flowing trails all the way down. As a mountain biker you should remember to keep your eyes on the trail ahead of you and give way to hikers and runners. Naturally, you bring back your own litter and remember not to ride where it’s too wet. It’s not so much fun riding in mud anyway. Most important of all, have fun!
The peak of a mountain
The trail starts at “Ripan” ascends to the cabin at the top of the mountain and descends back down to where you started. It starts off with easy downhill cycling across the mountain plateau on the back side of the mountain. It is quite easy to bike and well worth the journey up. Once you reach the top, you go back down the same way.
Duration: 1.5 – 2 hours to get back to “Ripan”. The ascent to the cabin at the top is hard work. The downhill is graded “blue”.
Ride with us
The trail starts at “Ripan”, ascends to the cabin at the top then turns towards the front side of the mountain and ends up back at “Ripan”. The first part is stony but fun and the trail is quite exposed in places. After a short climb you descend again on a really cool trail with a section that has sharp turns. The speed then increases for a while followed by fairly easy riding through the forest. Some wooden walkways can be tricky, and you may have to walk on some of these. Next there’s a flat section before you arrive just above the hotel. This trail is technically demanding, but you can walk the parts that are more difficult.
Duration: 2 – 2.5 hours to get back to “Ripan”. The ascent to the cabin at the top is hard work. The downhill is graded “Black”.
Ride with us – remix
This is our easier trail. It follows the same route as “Ride with us” but starts after the sharp turns. Remember that there is a difficult wooden walkway on the trail so watch out. At this point you may want to walk with your bike.
Duration: 1.5 – 2 hours to get back to “Ripan”. The ascent is medium hard. The downhill is graded “Red”.
