We also welcome training camps and groups — both elite athletes and recreational skiers — and we have our own qualified coaches to help you develop as a cross-country skier. The lit trail is 1.5 km and is groomed daily, as are the 5 km and 7 km tracks. The remaining 120 km of touring trails are groomed as needed based on weather and wind conditions and are interconnected with the other destinations in the southern Åre mountains.

Below are two of the local favorites, but you can find many more on the Södra Årefjällen website.

140 Ytterstvallen

A Mountain Excursion in Any Weather

A Mountain Adventure in Any Weather

Whether you set out from the hotel, the cross-country parking area, or by the lifts, you’ll glide easily and comfortably to Bergstedt’s cottages. From there, a lovely downhill stretch takes you through forest and across a couple of smaller marshes, down to Nyvallen. The terrain leading to Ytterstvallen is varied and offers wonderful skiing. At Ytterstvallen’s old summer pasture, it’s the perfect spot for a coffee break—especially if waffles are being served. If you want to check in advance, call +46 (0)70-625 64 75.

Continuing on a gentle incline, you head through birch forests and across marshland to reach Björkdungssvängen. Here, turn right toward Ludumyrarna. The wind shelter with a fireplace is the perfect place to grill your lunch or enjoy a packed meal. Via “Torget,” you then ski through old-growth forest back to either the ski area parking lot, Högfjällshotellet, or Bergstedt’s cottages.

142 Välliste runt

Full or Half-Day with Magical Views

Challenging Tour with Breathtaking Views

According to old lore, this route wasn’t meant for women in skirts. Of course, your gender doesn’t matter, but you should be an experienced skier. If it’s windy and blustery, choose a tour in more sheltered terrain—this trail tends to drift over when the wind picks up on the open mountains.

Start from Trillevallen’s Högfjällshotell or the cross-country parking area and tackle the steady climb via Korsflon to Norra stugan. Before long, you’ll emerge into open mountain terrain, continuing through the Norra ravine. You’ll ski 3.5 kilometers across the high plateau with fantastic views of Åreskutan, Snasahögarna, and Bydalsfjällen. Handölsdalen’s Sami village often has reindeer grazing around Välliste in winter, so please remember that they’re sensitive to disturbance.

After Skalknippen, enjoy a wonderful downhill run to Ludumyrarna via Ripkallhöjden. If you haven’t taken a break before, this is a great spot to do so. The tour then ends with easy skiing back to Högfjällshotellet.

Alternatively, you can start your trip from the ski area, heading toward Norra stugan. In that case, you’ll ski back to the ski area from Torget instead of gliding down to Högfjällshotellet.
