FLOWER TRAIL WITH THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VIEWS

Södra Årefjällen // Ess Design

Start at Trillevallen’s ski-lift parking lot. If you have a smartphone and want to learn more about the plants you see, you can download the “Shuttle” app. Follow the gravel road through the mountain birch forest up to the open mountain plateau. Take the opportunity to enjoy the views and flowers as you climb the gradual incline. Around midsummer, you have a chance to see rare alpine plants on Välliste.

Once at the top, your reward is the breathtaking views. With the Sylarna range to the west and the Anaris massif to the south, you’ve found the perfect spot for a break. Just north of the rest cabin, you’ll pass a stone monument in memory of a little girl.

As you continue along the mountain ridge northward, you’ll have a view of the Indalsälven valley. Before descending into the mountain birch forest, take the path southward, completing the loop at the gravel road you ascended.

FULL OR HALF-DAY WITH MAGICAL VIEWS

Södra Årefjällen // Ess Design

Start from Trillevallen’s Högfjällshotell and head up towards the lifts, then turn left after a few hundred meters onto the trail leading to Ytterstvallen’s summer farm. You’ll follow a restored summer farm trail through ancient forest with bearded trees. The charming old farm cottages are a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the view. As you continue up Välliste’s southern slope, you’ll hear the brook bubbling in the ravine to the right of the trail. Once on the open mountain plateau, follow the trail to Skaltjärnen. This is another great spot to pause and take in the magical mountain views. Then, follow the trail to the right, which will eventually lead you to the Toppstugan. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful view of the mountain landscape.

As you continue over the summit to Norra Stugan, you can enjoy beautiful alpine flowers from late June through July. The view over the Åre Valley is also quite impressive. Some short sections are a bit rocky. The hike from Norra Stugan, down through the mountain birch forest, is a bit wet in places, but you’ll soon be back at Trillevallen.

If you prefer the shortest route back from Toppstugan, take the path down via the ski slope.
